Augest, 2000

The Fourth of July is just around the corner, and many people are on or planning vacations. We are in the process of planning our upcoming year's workshops and products. If you have suggestions, either for a workshop topic or speaker, or for an enhancement or product that utilizes our production database, please let us know. As always, I can be reached at martha@prrc.nmt.edu. We will also be attending various oil-related meetings throughout New Mexico, including IPANM and later, NMOGA, so you can look us up there.

The next PTTC event will be in September at the Rocky Mountain Section AAPG  meeting in Albuquerque. We will be sponsoring and chairing the session on Fractured Reservoirs. Also, there will be an international conference on "Evaluation of Reservoir Wettability and Its Effect on Oil Recovery"  on September 27-28, 2000. Look for more information on both these meetings later this summer. We will participate also in the Annual CO2 meeting in Midland in December.

Several people have noticed, and let me know, that Cook Inlet is no longer providing gas prices on their web site. As a result of this, we are no longer updating prices for Waha hub in our price database. We will be looking for a replacement for this, and I also hope to find a provider of San Juan prices as well.

Did you know that you can access the results of many DOE-sponsored projects online? For a sampling of what is available, we browsed a few web sites and found some of the following. From the DOE's National Energy Technology web site, the following conference proceedings are available: University of Coal Research Contractors Review Meeting, 2000 Conference on SCR/SNCR for NOx Control, 2000 Conference on Unburned Carbon on Utility Flyash, Industry Partnerships to Deploy Environmental Tech. Conf., 1999 ATS Review Meeting, 13th U.S.-Korea Joint Workshop on Energy & Environment, Joint Fuel Cell Technology Review Conference, Appalachian Rivers II Conference. From the Fossil Energy web site, Environmental Benefits of Advanced Oil and Natural Gas Technologies - How advanced technology has led to fewer dry holes, smaller drilling 'footprints,' more productive wells, and less waste....(October 1999), National Petroleum Council - Meeting the Challenges of the Nation's Growing Natural Gas Demand - The Council concluded that U.S. gas resource base exists to support natural gas demand of beyond 31 TCF in 2015 but meeting the significant challenges that accompany such vigorous market growth will require strenuous effort by the industry and substantial support on key issues by the government....(December 1999); and Strategic Petroleum Reserve - 1999 Annual Report An annual update of the nation's emergency crude oil inventory, including the beginnings of the Royalty-in-Kind program to add crude oil to the Reserve....(May 2000).  From the Energy Information Agency, you can access International Petroleum Monthly, an online newsletter/database containing statistics on oil balance, oil demand, oil production, oil imports, and more.
