User
Interface Development
The
project team shall develop the necessary products for
ease in accessing the database. Well data availability
and dissemination are key components of this project.
The data will be made available and accessible in a
variety of formats to satisfy the needs of a variety
of users. Data will be available via the Internet and
by CD-ROM. This task will occupy the second year of
the project, as soon as a relatively finalized, integrated
database is available.
Internet Data availability
The project team shall create an internet UI that will
be a web application similar to those used at the PRRC
for other web-based data products. The underlying information
base will be a SQL Server database. Data is accessed
through text-based queries to provide tables, images,
or data files that can be downloaded in a variety of
formats. Data access interfaces will be beta-tested
by industry participants and their suggestions about
format or data types will be incorporated into the final
product. Downloadable shape files for some data will
be available for users who wish to import files into
their own GIS software. Certain important data tables
will also be made available as comma-separated-value
(.csv) text files.
Stand-Alone CD-ROM
Further, the project team shall create SQL data tables
that will be converted into either Microsoft® Access
data files, or a variety of searchable tables to allow
generation of a stand-alone version of the database.
While not as upgradeable or fast as the online version,
it will allow the use of the data in locations where
the Internet is not accessible, or when substantial
input of proprietary information is desired. GIS shapefiles
and a simple GIS viewer (eg., Arc Explorer) will be
included in the stand-alone UI.
